Designers have started work on plans to extend the Luas system to Finglas on the northside of Dubin -- in what one TD is calling the "FingLUAS".
Local Fine Gael TD Noel Rock says he's been told Transport Infrastucture Ireland has begun design work.
He says an provisional route should be announced next year.
Deputy Rock says he's delighted.
"For the communities in Finglas and for myself, it's very welcome news altogether, and something I've been seeking for a long time now," he said.
"Finglas is one of the most under-served communities in the city with regard to public transport that the Luas can provide will be very welcome indeed.
