A cyclist, who was knocked off his bike on Dublin's quays, has died.

It happened at around 10.30pm on Monday night on North Wall Quay.

The cyclist, who was in his 20s, was hit by a car and taken to the Mater hospital in a serious condition. He passed away from his injuries today.

The car failed to remain at the scene and was later discovered a short distance away.

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses and in particular to anyone who was in the area of North Wall Quay, North Wall Avenue, East Wall Road, Sheriff Street Upper, Castleforbes Road or Castleforbes Square between 10.15pm and 10.30pm to come forward.

The victim is believed to be a food delivery rider from Brazil.

A facebook event says he will be remembered at a candle lit vigil at the Spire this evening.
