A new smart phone app will be available for free download today to help Gardai notify people directly when a CRI alert is triggered.
A Child Rescue Ireland Alert is issued in suspected child abduction cases.
Today is National Missing Persons Day and to mark the event, Gardai are launching a free app to compliment their CRI alert system.
The alert itself was launched in May of last year and has since been used twice with the most recent alert being triggered only last week after concerns were raised about the whereabouts of a mother and her three children in Co. Roscommon.
In cases where there is a genuine concern for a child's safety, relevant details including names, last movements, descriptions etc are distributed to the media to quickly draw national attention to the situation.
And from now on, it'll be even easier for investigating officers to speak directly to members of the public through this new app - the details of which will be laid bare by the Garda Commissioner later this morning.
