It's reported Gardai are to mount a crackdown on motorists breaking red lights and causing Luas collisions.

It follows a rise in the number of crashes this year.

Luas operators Transdev are appealing to drivers to stop breaking red lights.

Last year there were 22 incidents while this year that number's risen to 36.

More than half of those are caused by motorists who keep driving after traffic lights have turned red.

And the majority of those happen on the Luas red line at Blackhall Place, Queen Street and on the Belgard Road.

According to the Irish Independent today, Gardai are to get tough by patrolling those junctions in a clamp down on those illegally breaking red lights.

Meanwhile its reported DARTs are going to be inspected more often, after complaints of over-crowding.

Passenger safety has been called into question over recent weeks - because of what's been described as dangerously full trains.

Its believed its as a result of cut-backs which means fewer carriages are getting used, even at rush hour.
