No new coronavirus-related deaths have been reported this evening while 12 new cases have been confirmed.

The death toll in Ireland remains at 1,764 while the national cases total stands at 25,881.

There are 11 COVID-19 patients in Irish hospitals at the moment and five people in intensive care.

8,140 tests have been carried out in the last 24 hours.

Of the 49,525 carried out in the last week, 0.3% have come back positive.

It comes as the WHO warns Irish people that now is “not the time to relax” when it comes to COVID-19.

Spokesperson Margaret Harris said anyone considering travelling outside the country has a responsibility to be their “own risk manager” and make decisions for the good of everybody.

She also said a lot of work needs to be done to allow schools to safely reopen – warning that children who don’t get sick can still spreads the virus and young teenagers can get just as sick as young adults.

Meanwhile, Travellers arriving into Northern Ireland from Spain now have to quarantine for 14-days after a surprise announcement last night.

Spain has recorded over 900 confirmed cases of the virus for the last two days running.
