COVID-19: 1,254 New Cases, 48 Additional Deaths

There have been 48 additional deaths related to COVID-19 and 1,254 new confirmed cases in Ireland.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) says 45 of those deaths were in January.

The median age of those who died is 82 years, and with age range between 30-99 years.

There has been a total of 3,214 COVID-19 related deaths and 193,892 cases here.

These figures include the denotifications of one death and seven cases.

Of the cases notified today:

  • 587 are men / 658 are women
  • 54% are under 45 years of age
  • The median age is 42 years old

Some 437 cases are in Dublin, 146 in Cork, 76 in Meath, 69 in Wexford, and 62 in Kildare.

The remaining 464 cases are spread across all other counties.

As of 2.00pm, 1,518 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised - of which 211 are in ICU.

There have been 51 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

Latest available figures show 147,700 people have received their first vaccine dose, with 13,800 getting a second dose.

It comes after the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine was earlier approved for use across the EU by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
