The jury in the Josh Dunne murder trial has heard the Dublin teenager died from a single stab wound to the right side of his chest.
George Gonzaga Bento, a food delivery man who was living in Dublin 3 at the time, denies murdering the 16-year-old in the East Wall area of Dublin.
Dr Heidi Okkers carried out the post-mortem on Josh Dunne’s body on the 27th of January last year – the day after his alleged murder.
She said there were two stab wounds to his chest area – one of which penetrated his aorta.
This, she told the jury, is the largest blood vessel in the body and the injury to it caused significant blood loss that led to Josh’s death.
Dr Okkers also gave evidence of two cuts to his hand, which were in keeping with defensive or offensive type injuries, she said.
Tests for drugs and alcohol came back negative, she added, before concluding that death was caused by that single stab wound to the right side of his chest.
George Gonzaga Bento denies murdering Josh Dunne and also denies assault causing harm to two others during a fight that’s alleged to have started over a stolen bike.
