Local Sinn Féin Councillor, Daithí Doolan, says locals are 'horrified and heartbroken', following the death of a man in the city centre.
Emergency services were called to the scene of a stabbing on South Anne Street in the early hours of this morning.
A man, understood to be in his 30's, was discovered with serious knife wounds and died later in hospital.
A second man who was also injured is being treated for non-life threatening injuries in St James's Hospital.
Mr. Doolan says this isn't the Dublin he knows.
A garda spokesperson says, "Gardaí in Pearse Street are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in his 30s following an incident in South Anne Street/Duke Lane Upper, Dublin 2 in the early hours of this morning Saturday 15th February 2025.
"Shortly after 3:00am, Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at South Anne Street/Duke Lane Upper where a man was found with serious injuries and unresponsive. He was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel and transferred to hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
"A second male, also in his 30s, was injured in the vicinity and has been treated for non-life threatening injuries.
"The Office of the State Pathologist and local Coroner have been notified.
"A murder investigation has began and a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed.
"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
"Any person who may have been present in the vicinity of South Anne Street/Duke Lane Upper, Dublin 2 between 2:45am and 3:30am this morning Saturday 15th February 2025.
"Gardaí are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have information about any of these incidents or has any mobile phone footage recorded at the relevant locations, and any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area or in the vicinity of Dawson Street and St. Stephens Green at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
