Dublin City Council says it will issue a licence to Croke Park to host Katie Taylor's rematch with Amanda Serrano.
That's according to Councillor Nial Ring, who says it would be a great opportunity for the area in terms of tourism and business.
It's been reported that most residents are also in favour of the fight taking place in the GAA stadium.
The Bray boxer retained her world titles in a history-making bout with Amanda Serrano in New York.
It was the first time a female line-up headlined a boxing event at the iconic Madison Square Garden.
Both Taylor and Serrano have verbally agreed to a rematch later this year.
Responding to the speculation, Councillor Ring said:
"Katie Taylor has been such an inspiration for young girls to take up boxing, and sport in general. This isn't a case of a concert, this is a welcome home and a tribute to Katie for the success she's had and the absolute joy she's brought to the Irish nation. So I think it's different circumstances".
The former Lord Mayor also said there will be several obstacles to overcome if the event is to get the green light. He says the time difference between Ireland and the US will play a factor, as TV bosses over there will likely want the fight to reach a prime time audience.
