The latest figures from the Residential Tenancies Board show the average rent for new tenancies nationally was €1,544 in the first three months of the year.
Rents for new tenancies between January and March were up by 8.9%, or €38, compared to the same time last year.
Compared to the last quarter of 2022, that was a 2.5% rise.
In Dublin, the average rent for a new tenancy was just over €2,100 per month, making the area the most expensive in the country.
The standardised average rent for new tenancies in Q1 2023 was:

However, new rental agreements for apartments were even more expensive than houses, with the average rent for apartments coming in at €1,586 nationally.
The county with the fastest-growing average rent for new tenancies registered between January and March was Roscommon, which saw an over 23% increase in the past year.
The lowest increase was in Carlow, where rents for new tenancies increased by 2% in the past year.
Sixteen counties across the country had average rents above one thousand euro a month.
