There have been 581 new cases of coronavirus reported in Ireland today.

The five-day moving average now stands at 471 cases.

As of this morning, there were 60 people being treated in Irish hospitals for COVID-19 - up slightly compared to recent days.

17 of those patients are being treated in intensive care.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “We are continuing to see an increase in the incidence rate of COVID-19, and so, it is important that we do as much as possible to control the spread of the disease as the vaccination programme opens to all adults over the age of 18.

“The continuing high levels of adherence to the public health advice, high levels of vaccine uptake and community engagement with testing centres around the country are all reasons to be positive."

It comes as the vaccination rollout continues, with registration opening to all 30 to 34-year-olds from today.

The HSE says over 100,000 COVID-19 vaccines have already been administered this week, with over 51% of the adult population now fully vaccinated.

Around 69% of adults have had at least one dose.
