There have been 482 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in the Republic.
Seven further deaths have also been reported, all of which occurred in November.
Of today's new cases, 128 were in Dublin, 45 in Cork, 43 in Waterford, 36 in Limerick, 24 in Donegal, and 24 in Meath, with the remaining cases spread across 20 other counties.
As of this afternoon, there were 258 COVID-19 patients in Irish hospitals - including 35 in ICU.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “The increase in case numbers of COVID-19 today is an important reminder of the unpredictable nature of this highly infectious disease.
"The hard work undertaken by all of us over the last three weeks is to be commended, but we must not allow our success to date let us drop our guard against the spread of this disease."
The national incidence rate of the virus now stands at 129 per 100,000 - the third lowest rate in Europe.
