Watch out if you're parking on Pearse Street or Merrion Square.

They're the two biggest clamping hotspots, and Dublin City Council is making millions from them.

Last year it made nearly 30 million euro from parking fees, and over 4 million in clamping fines.

Clampers immobilised over 56-thousand vehicles, and most of their victims were on Merrion Square West, Pearse Street and Mespil Road.

Other areas which acted as a cash cow for the council included Ormond Quay, Jervis Street and Ranelagh.

But Tara Buckley from RGDATA - the mouthpiece for supermarkets and convenience stores - says over-zealous parking regimes are driving away business

The council says it needs to enforce parking rules or there'd be mayhem for people trying to get around the city.

RGDATA says it understands traffic management is necessary, but doesnt think local authorities should be leaning so heavily on parking, as a source of income.

And the group is calling for a uniform price for parking fees and fines, so everyone right across the country knows how much to pay.

The Top Ten Most Clamped Streets in 2013 were:

1 Merrion Square West

2 Mespil Road

Pearse Street

4 Dominic Street Lwr

5 Ormond Quay Upr

6 Jervis Street

7 Ranelagh

8 Burlington Road

9 Rathmines Road Lwr

10 Wellington Quay
