Dublin's performing arts scene could be given a boost with a new 500 seater venue.
Dublin city council has put out a tender for a company to carry out a feasibility study on a potential new space.
The local authority says the review should consider a new build and a refurbishment option and will involve engagement with the arts industry.
The successful company is being asked to consider why the city needs such a venue, where it should be located and how much it will cost.
Willie White, Artistic Director of Dublin Theatre Festival, says there's very little space left for performance in the city;
"I'm delighted, it was me who moved the motion at the SPC and I did so because I and other people working in the performing arts find it really challening the lack of venues and the reducing number of venues in Dublin city centre, so it's a feasibility study but it's a start."
