Dublin City Council is reassuring residents that maintenance teams trying to access their homes are genuine.

Letters have been sent to thousands of homes in the last few months, to arrange for checks to be carried out.

Following concern the letters were fake, the Council has clarified that it has hired seven contractors to assess the condition of its Housing Stock.

So far, 16,000 of 26,000 units have been checked.

Dublin City Council said that letters are "sent to each resident, prior to the survey being carried out", and that the work is being carried out by seven contractors.

All workers "must present ID before entering anybody’s home", DCC said in a statement to 98FM News.

Appointments can be made to have the checks carried out at a time that suits residents, and can be booked by phoning 01-2222191.

Dublin City Council says it plans to clear up the confusion in posts on its social media channels and website.
