Dublin's historic Fruit and Vegetable Market will be home to a new Christmas Festival this year.
The market near Capel Street closed last year after 127 years, and Mistletown will now take place during the month of December, starting on the 4th.
The festival will feature food stalls, gifts and crafts, performances from artists, a vintage funfair, and a visit from Santa.
300 people will be employed at the event during the month of December.
Entry is free, and the organisers say the 6-thousand square metre space will allow for physical distancing.
Festive Cheer
Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland says: "Mistletown and events like it give us an opportunity to breathe life back into the city centre and in this case it also brings back into temporary use Dublin’s iconic Fruit and Veg Market, which is fantastic. The market will have something to offer for people of all ages and tastes and I look forward to seeing it come to life. It will no doubt enhance the Dublin experience over the month of December."
Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail Damien English says: "Mistletown is the perfect way to enjoy the city centre again this Winter. "Providing a much-needed boots to small artisan food and craft business after what has been a very difficult time. Mistletown will employee both directly and indirectly over 300 people for the month of December, resulting in over 6,000 workdays. We want to encourage and help small business to re-emerge and grow, events like Mistletown help this."
Susie Melisson, Director at Artisan Events says: "Mistletown is the shining star on top of Dublin’s Christmas Tree; a place where everyone can come for some festive cheer. The past eighteen months have been incredibly tough, and we all need something to look forward to as we approach this Winter period. "Never before has there been such an emphasis on socialising in a safe manner, and we have been working very hard behind the scenes over the past few months to ensure Mistletown can be run safely, with additional measures in place in line with the government guidelines."
