Treats for young children should be no more than one square of chocolate a week.

New healthy eating guidelines for 1 to 4 year olds have been published by the Department of Health.

1 square of chocolate, 3 crisps, half a plain biscuit, OR 3 jellies  is what children aged 1 to 4 should get - no more than once a week as a treat according to the Department of Health.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says he doesn't expect parents to stick to it religiously.

Portion size is a big focus of the plan with the recommendation to feed children off a side plate, with suggested serving sizes of half a slice of bread, half a banana and 30g of meat.
