RNLI volunteers are being praised for the rapid response that helped rescue a six-year-old girl from the sea off the East Pier in Dún Laoghaoire last night.
A multi-agency response begun shortly after 8pm when members of the public raised the alarm.
The Coast Guard, Gardaí and Dublin Fire-brigade all responded, and the RNLI got their boat in the water in just SIX minutes to bring the child to safety.
The Dublin Based RESCUE 116 helicopter was also dispatched.
RNLI operations manager Ed Todderdell said their rescue team navigated difficult conditions - getting into the water in just six minutes to bring the young girl to safety.
"Andy Hayes on helm, and we had Garry Hayes and Alva Smith. Not only that, but there's a whole backup that goes with it, down at the station we had lots of people who were ready with first aid kits, blankets, when the boat came back in with the little girl on board,"
