There was a 113% increase in pest control call outs for cockroaches in November compared to the same time last year.
Dublin accounted for close to half (45%) of those, followed by Sligo, Cork and Roscommon.
That's according to Rentokil, which is advising people to check their Christmas Trees for infestations.
It's also urging everyone not to use edible items as decorations.
Rentokil has published the following advice:
- Check your storage boxes that hold Christmas decorations for hidden insects or rodents.
- Avoid using edible items as decorations, such as candy canes or chocolate coins.
- Seal all stocking fillers, like sweets or chocolate, in plastic.
- Clean up all Christmas leftovers or spillages.
- Keep those leftovers in sealed containers with tight lids.
- Dispose of all clutter, like wrapping paper and packaging, to cut down on possible hiding places.

Cockroaches Will Be Tempted By Your Warm House
Rentokil Field Consultant Richard Faulkner says the winter temperatures mean these creepy crawlies will be tempted to move into your home:
"Plummeting temperatures outside and an abundance of food and warmth indoors create attractive conditions for rodents and insects to migrate inside in search of shelter and sustenance."
"Rentokil is advising the public to be particularly cautious and diligent to guard against pest activity."
"Following a few simple steps can help to ensure that your festivities aren’t spoiled by uninvited guests.”
