Workers at the Cadbury factory in Coolock are to go on strike from 7am tomorrow. The action could lead to a shortage of Cadbury Dairy Milk 8-square, Flake, Twirl and Boost bars.
Mondelez Ireland says it needs to streamline "to become more sustainable and competitive for the future." The company has put forward proposals including a €11.7 million investment in "new chocolate making technology".
After talks, the company admitted that "a number of issues remained unresolved" which were discussed at the Labour Court.
Workers are now unhappy with the outcome of those talks, and members of both SIPTU and UNITE trade unions will stop working at Cadbury's Coolock factory from 7am on Thursday 3rd March 2016.
The company says it believes the action "is being taken in protest at the planned future outsourcing of a small number of non-core roles at some point in the future."
The company says it "deeply regrets that SIPTU and UNITE have decided to take this step" and "remains available to meet again with the SIPTU and UNITE representatives".
The trade unions say the action will continue "indefinitely".
