Buncrana Pier Family Funeral Takes Place In Derry

The funeral of the five family members who died in the Donegal pier tragedy has taken place in Derry.

Sean McGrotty's car slid into the sea at Buncrana at the weekend - killing him, his two sons, his mother-in-law and his sister-in-law.

Davitt Walsh, who swam out to the family and saved a four month old girl, was given a long round of applause at this afternoon's service.

Five hearses drew up side by side at the Holy Family Church.

The three white coffins of Mark and Evan McGrotty and Jodi-Lee Daniels led into the church before the coffins of Sean McGrotty and Ruth Daniels.

Louise James, who lost her partner, two children, mother and sister in the tragedy, read out a poem at the funeral.

Representitivate of the President and the Taoseach, as wellas Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister Martin McGuiness are among the hundreds of mourners at the mass this afternoon.

The five members of one family will be buried together in two graves this afternoon after the service in Derry.
