Lawyers for one of the two boys convicted of murdering Ana Kriègel will today seek permission to introduce 'fresh evidence' into their appeal.
Boy B was just 13-years-old when he lured Ana to her death in May 2018 and his legal team is now trying to have his conviction overturned.
In 2019, the boy who was referred to as Boy B during the coverage of his trial was convicted of murdering Kildare schoolgirl Ana Kriègel after being found to have lured her to a derelict farmhouse in Lucan, where his friend was waiting for her.
Both he and Boy A can never be identified because of their ages at the time.
Boy B is seeking to overturn his conviction and today, his lawyers will ask for permission to introduce evidence not heard during the trial into his appeal. This is a different legal team to the one which defended him at trial.
Aside from introducing fresh evidence, they also want to challenge the admissibility of certain evidence not challenged by their predecessors at trial.
This is not a full appeal hearing. A date for that will be set once this motion is dealt with.
Patrick Kriégel
Meanwhile, the father of murdered schoolgirl Ana Kriégel has died.
Patrick Kriégel passed away at his home in Leixlip in Co Kildare on Sunday.
His funeral service takes place tomorrow afternoon in Newlands Cross Crematorium.
