Black Friday deals failed to give footfall in Dublin City Centre a much-needed boost according to Dublin Town.

Retailers generally do a third of their annual turnover in the six weeks leading up to Christmas.

Footfall is around 75 to 80 per cent of what it was pre-pandemic.

Dublin Town Chief Executive Richard Guiney says when the covid numbers go up, footfall goes down;

"So it went from 85 down to 80 and then back into the 70s unfortunately which isn't the space we want to be in" he said.

The business group's CEO says the absence of office workers is a real issue for city retailers; "the evening trade that would generally be kicking in over the last couple of weeks is not happening."
