Three rapid bus routes for Dublin have been proposed by the National Transport Authority.
According to the Irish Times, the routes would run from Swords and Dublin airport to the city centre , Blanchardstown to UCD and Clongriffin to Tallaght.
It's proposed that this new system called Swiftway could cut bus and journey times by almost 40 percent.
Its estimated that each route would cost around 200 million euro, less than a 10th of the estimated cost of Metro North.
The airport line would be the busiest and most likely to go ahead first.
The authority plans to make an application to An Bord Pleanala for that line this year and it could be approved for next year.
Vehicles would have multiple doors at platform levels with as many stops as the luas service.
Tickets would be bought from vending machines at stops or passengers would use the leap card.
