The INMO is warning nurses are facing a never before seen rise in workload demands due to the pandemic.
It comes after it emerged staff at St Vincent’s Hospital on the southside, have been forced to use baby monitors to keep an eye on critically ill patients.
They're being used at two beds in the ICU due to staff shortages.
Steve Pitman from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says it’s a worrying development:
"Intensive care nurses are monitoring patients all of the time, that's the nature of the job, it is intensive care. So any situation where they're not able to monitor on a one to one basis, is going to cause concern for those intensive care nurses."
