Amnesty International has joined calls for an investigation into the burial of 796 children at a mother and baby home in Tuam Co. Galway.
The remains of children, aged between two days and nine years, were found in a disused septic tank.
Colm O'Gorman, Executive Director of Amnesty International, said any investigation must consider whether ill-treatment, neglect or other abuses were factors in the children's deaths.
And he insisted the Tuam case should not be viewed in isolation.
