Barack Obama says he will launch a review into America's spying programmes, amid growing outrage across Europe at the scale of the eavesdropping.
It's been reported that millions of phonecalls in France and Spain have been intercepted - while German Chancellor Angela Merkel may have had her mobile phone monitored for over ten years.
President Obama has refused to comment on whether or not he knew the NSA had tapped Chancellor Merkel's phone, but, speaking to ABC News, he says American's spying agencies have an important role to play.
