Hundreds of affordable rental homes will be built in South Dublin. The homes will be available to low and middle income workers.
The apartments near Shankill will be priced at 30 percent below market rates, under a new scheme from the Land Development Agency.
600 homes will be built on land surrounding Shanganagh Castle.
The Irish Times reports that at least 300 of them will be cost rental accommodation.
Rents will cost €1300 for two bedroom apartment.
In contrast, a 2 bed in the area would usually be rented for €1850 per month.
Another 200 homes will be used for social housing, while the remaining homes expected to be offered for sale.
Under the cost rental scheme rents are linked to the cost of providing the housing and not market rates.
As a result, workers earning up to €50,000 per year or €75,000 as a couple would be eligible for the scheme.
