Six children are in hospital after inhaling chemical fumes at a swimming pool in Co. Kildare.
The incident happened at around 10:30 this morning in Maynooth.
25 school children were swimming in the campus pool at NUI Maynooth when vapour from the pool's plant room entered the air conditioning system during a maintenance operation.
The vent system was switched off, and the pool immediately evacuated.
Fifteen ambulances were called to the scene and the children were assessed by both the University's Medical Team and the National Ambulance Service.
Due to the age of the children who were all under nine, six were brought to hospital to be assessed.
Nineteen of the children returned to their school.
The incident is being investigated by the University and the Health & Safety Authority.
