At least 50 people have drowned after a boat carrying 500 migrants to Italy sank in the Mediterranean.
A further 120 have been rescued after the vesel caught fire and capsized near the island of Lampedusa.
The local mayor says the survivors are "in a state of shock" and had been in the water for several hours.
Search efforts are continuing this morning - with more than 200 people still unaccounted for.
