Less than a third of bikes stolen since the start of last year have been recovered.
Nearly 7,000 have been taken in that time - and gardai are advising cyclists to do all they can to keep their bike safe.
Lock it or Lose It is the message from Gardai - after a spike in bike thefts.
New figures show nearly 7 thousand have been taken since January last year.
Around 4,800 of them were in Dublin, over 350 in Cork, and more than 200 in Galway and Limerick.
Other tips from Gardai include keeping a record of the bike's serial number, keeping the lock off the ground and storing it indoors or in well-lit areas.
