44,000 smuggled cigarettes worth €23,000 have been seized at Dublin Port.
Revenue officers, with the help of detector dog Kelly, discovered the cigarettes, along with 308 litres of alcohol worth €6,700 today.
The cigarettes and alcohol were found in two vans which had arrived in Dublin Port from Bulgaria via Holyhead.
The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Marlboro’, ‘Rothmans’, ‘King’, ‘Sobraine’, and ‘Dunhill’ and tobacco branded ‘Old Holborn’, ‘Golden Virginia’ and ‘George Karelias & Sons’ have a combined estimated value of almost €23,000, representing a loss to the Exchequer of €19,630.
Investigations are ongoing.
