Almost 4 in 10 people under the age of 35 in Dublin say they can't afford to buy their first home, according to a new opinion poll.

The latest Ipsos MRBI survey for the Irish Times also found 14 per cent of this age group in the capital say they're struggling to pay their rent or mortgage.

While half of those surveyed overall felt it was difficult to save for a deposit, 18 per cent said banks were not willing to lend to them.

The poll also found that for those happy with the amount they could borrow, 18 per cent couldn't find a house at that price.
