334 Drivers Caught Speeding On National Slow Down Day

334 drivers have been caught speeding so far on National Slow Down Day.

Over 90,000 vehicles have been checked, and one driver was caught doing 123km per hour in a 100 zone on the N18 Ballinacurra (Weston) Limerick.

The joint Garda and RSA campaign has been put in place to raise awareness of the dangerous of speeding, as the total number of deaths on Irish roads so far this year stands at 127.

A garda spokesperson says: "Between 7am and 5pm, GoSafe checked the speeds of 90,454 vehicles and detected 170 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

"In addition to the GoSafe figures, Garda members have detected an additional 164 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit during the same timeframe."
Examples of high speeds detected include:
• 78km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Leopardstown Road Dublin 18
• 89km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the N4 Drishoge Carrick-On-Shannon Roscommon
• 115km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N15 Keeldrum Donegal Donegal
• 106km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R772 Clavass Enniscorthy Wexford
• 123km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N18 Ballinacurra (Weston) Limerick Limerick
• 130km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M6 Killavally Tyrrellspass Westmeath
