194,000 homes and businesses are without power this morning after Storm Ellen made landfall overnight.
Cork, Limerick, Clare and Galway are worst affected.
While a status yellow wind warning remains in place in Dublin and a number of other counties, particularly along the east coast, until 8am.
Cathal Nolan, from Ireland's Weather Channel, says it's the worst conditions since Storm Ophelia, which claimed three lives in 2017;
"Certainly this storm ranks pretty evenly with Storm Ophelia, so I mean some parts of the country have seen gusts of wind over the course of the past number of hours that have even exceeded the levels that were recorded during Storm Ophelia."
In Cork, where a red alert was in place, is also experiencing severe flooding, particularly in the likes of Skibbereen and Bandon.
There are a number of trees down across the country with the clean up process already underway.
ESB Networks have been working through the night to restore power and are dispatching additional manpower this morning.
