100 gardaí had to be drafted in to deal with anti and pro-immigrant protests in Dublin city centre yesterday.
The public order unit was deployed after demonstrators blocked O'Connell Bridge during rush hour, while 19 people were arrested.
From early morning, extra gardaí were brought in to police the protests, that included a march from O'Connell Street to the Dáil and another protest on Grafton Street.
Gardaí say they had to deal with a number of public order incidents, while members of the force had to separate anti-immigrant protestors from counter demonstrators at times.
At one point, a sit-down protest shut off O'Connell Bridge before two public order units were deployed.
Uniform Gardaí and Garda Public Order Units remained on patrol for the rest of the evening.
