An 18-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with an investigation into a shooting in Dublin last week.

A Garda and another man were injured when shots were fired during a planned drugs raid at a house in Ballymun.

Last Thursday, the Emergency Response Unit was supporting local Gardaí at a planned drugs search of a house at Barnwell Drive in Ballymun when one of the armed officers was shot in the arm as they tried to force their way in.

There was an exchange of gunfire inside and a young man was shot and taken to hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening injury.

The wounded Garda was also hospitalised but has since been discharged.

18-year-old Shane Fay, who lives with his parents at Belclare Park in Ballymun, was arrested and taken in for questioning the next day.

He has since been charged with possession of a semi-automatic pistol and four rounds of ammunition at the house at Barnwell Drive on December 7th.

Judge Michael Walsh upheld Garda objections to bail this afternoon and remanded him in custody for a week.

He was also told there was no objection to legal aid.
