A man in his 30s is still in garda custody after a 12 hour gun siege outside Sligo town yesterday.
The man who was in his family home was seen carrying a firearm and gardai were alerted.
Shots were fired at gardai from a house before armed officers opened fire.
Special units of the force, including the ERU, were called in when the shots were fired at local gardai who attended the scene on the Strandhill Rd locally known as Scardenmore.
Gardai then opened fire and trained negotiators were brought in.
He eventually left the house yesterday afternoon and was taken to Sligo garda station.
No other family members were in the house at the time, however neighboring houses were evacuated as a precaution.
It ended peacefully and without injury short of 13 hours from when the guards were called.
