More than 100 deer have been killed at Dublin's Phoenix Park since the beginning of last year.
A marksman was hired to take out 116 of the animals as part of five culls, according to the Irish Examiner.
Freedom of information files show a deer hunter was brought in by the Office of Public Works to kill 74 of the animals in 2019, while another 42 were shot in January.
The internal documents also reveal the deer are butchered on site before being sold to a game dealer.
The deer are killed in order to keep the population at between 500 and 550 animals.
However animal welfare groups have called for different ways of keeping the numbers under control, including contraception.
