The National Transport Authority is looking to buy new information displays for bus stops that would show how much capacity there is on-board.

The updated Real Time Passenger Information would also include the availability of wheelchair spaces and whether the vehicle has low floor access.

The NTA says most displays will be needed at stops but others could be located elsewhere such as at libraries or office receptions, showing arrivals at a nearby stop or a number of stops.

It comes as the authority looks to significantly redesign the bus network in Dublin and other parts of the country as part of Bus Connects.

How information is provided to passengers will be a key part of the new network according to the NTA.

It follows an invitation for tenders that was put out to the market in July.
