Very sad news this morning!
DJ Casper - the man behind the No. 1dance hit 'The Cha Cha Slide' - has died at the age of 58.
His wife confirmed the news ABC7 Chicago: "He will be greatly missed."
"Casper was a fun-loving, giving person." she said about her late husband. "He was a genuine, family-oriented man. He loved Chicago with all his heart."
DJ Casper - who was born Willie Perry Junior - was best known for writing the popular dance song the 'Cha Cha Slide' as well as the iconic dance the accompanied it.
The song wasn't immediately an international hit, it was released in 2000 by Universal Records but didn't reach charts here or in the UK until 2004.
A fun fact about the song is that DJ Casper originally wrote it so his nephew could have something to play it in his step aerobics classes. Which explains why he explains every move to you as you go along!
And what makes it such an classic dance song at weddings and 21st birthdays - there's no excuse for not being able to dance!
The Cha Cha Slide was DJ Casper's only major hit - but it forever preserved him as an iconic figure to people who grew up in the noughties.
He remained active in the music scene with his Casper Classics Radio station, and was due to play the Popworld Festival in Leeds last weekend.
