The juice is loose!
It’s been 36 years since the original film, but the whole gang is back.
The sequel to Beetlejuice (cleverly named Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) is coming to cinemas in 2024 and we’ve gotten our first look at the film.
The original film follows recently deceased newlyweds (played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) who enlist the aid of the mischievous demon Beetlejuice/Betelgeuse to expel the current living residents of their home, the Deetz family. Chaos ensues!
Michael Keaton returns as the fiendish Beetlejuice, as do mother and daughter duo Catherine O’Hara and Winona Ryder as Delia and Lydia Deetz.
The new film will introduce a new generation of the Deetz family, the spooky Jenna Ortega (known for her breakout role in Netflix’s Wednesday) who will play Astrid, Lydia’s daughter.
Tim Burton has also returned to direct, and is keeping the plot of the movie under wraps, only revealing that the sequel kicks off with a death in the family.
“That's all I will say," Burton tells EW in an interview. "There's something that happens that sets things in motion."
He also described seeing Michael Keaton back in the Beetlejuice get-up 36 years later as a “weird out-of-body experience”.
"He just got back into it," the filmmaker recalled, "It was kind of scary for somebody who was maybe not that overly interested in doing it. It was such a beautiful thing for me to see all the cast, but he, sort of like demon possession, just went right back into it."
