He's heading to a galaxy far, far away!
Ryan Gosling has been confirmed to star as a "brand-new character" in the upcoming "Star Wars: Starfighter".
The standalone film, which is due for release in May 2027, will be directed by Shawn Levy, who has been at the helm of action thrillers such as 'Deadpool & Wolverine' and 'Stranger Things'. It is separate from the nine-film Skywalker franchise.
In a statement, Lucasfilm stated that the film will be set five years after the events of 2019's "Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker."
Announcing the news in a surprise appearance at the Star Wars Celebration event in Japan this month, Ryan said “I was probably dreaming about Star Wars before I even saw the film", referencing the bed sheets he had as a 5-year-old. “And it’s probably framed my idea of what a movie even was.”
Production on "Star Wars: Starfighter" will begin later this year. It's 2027 release will come a year after "The Mandalorian & Grogu," an expansion of the popular Disney+ streaming series starring Pedro Pascal due out in 2026.
