The Beatles drummer confirmed the news in an interview with Entertainment Tonight and that Barry is already learning how to play the drums!
“I think it’s great,” Ringo said after confirming the casting news, “I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons.”
“And I hope not too many,” he added.
The biopic will be one of four, as Sony Pictures have confirmed their plans to make a movie focusing on each of the four Beatles.
Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the families of George Harrison and John Lennon have granted Sony Pictures the full life story and music rights for the films.
Many names have been thrown around for who will play the remaining 3 Beatles, with fellow Irish actor Paul Mescal linked to the singer role of Paul McCartney.
Gladiator II star Joseph Quinn is rumoured to be the top consideration for George Harrison and The Iron Claw star Harris Dickinson to the role of John Lennon.
With this casting news seemingly confirmed, it’s likely the film based on the life of Ringo Starr will be the first Beatles biopic in production, although no filming schedules or release dates have been confirmed yet.
