The film is the fourth in the series, taking place nearly 10 years after the previous film Bridget Jones Baby.
But the American actress didn’t talk in an English accent 24/7 because she’s method, she actually revealed it’s because she’s “lazy”.
“I wouldn’t say it was method acting as much as it was lazy. I didn’t want to start every morning trying to make my vowels sound right. I just wanted it to be a habit. I didn’t want to work that hard!”
She’s also in a relationship with British presenter Ant Anstead, which probably helped with the practice!
Playing the role of Bridget Jones since 2001, Zellweger has been hailed for nailing the English accent. So much so that many people didn’t know she’s actually American.
For a long time I really believed Reneé Zellweger was British. Her accent, her affections, *everything* is so insanely perfect. I've met so many women in media like Bridget! (rewatching the films, yes)
