"Did ya now?"
The trailer for one of the biggest blockbusters of the year dropped yesterday, and our own Paul Mescal is taking centre stage.
Gladiator II, which takes places 20 years after the events of the original Ridley Scott film from 2000, follows the story of Lucius, played by Paul Mescal.
The trailer shows him being captured as a slave by the Romans and forced to fight in the colosseum.
The 3-minute preview is action-packed, featuring Lucius take on a rhino, a spectacular (and seemingly historically accurate) sea battle and a showdown between Lucius and the brutal General Acacius (played by Pedro Pascal).
In the trailer Paul’s character speaks with an English accent, not too dissimilar to the one Russell Crowe had in the original film.
However fans have been listening closely to the trailer and they reckon you can hear the Kildare in Paul Mescal’s voice at one particular part.

"Did ya now?"
It doesn’t sound out of place in Ancient Rome but it also doesn’t sound out of place if you heard it in The Roost in Maynooth 😂
Gladiator II is out in cinemas on the 15th of November 2024.
