The film is set in a near-future where humanity has been brought to the brink by a pandemic, and follows a pilot living on an airbase with an ex-marine and his dog.
He receives a message on his radio, and decides to get in his plane and leave the base to try and find out what's out there, despite all the risks involved.
The film is an adaptation of Peter Heller's novel of the same name and is set to begin filming in the spring.
Before that however, Paul is returning to the role of Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway, a role that won him an Olivier Award during its West End run.
Right now though both Paul Mescal and Ridley Scott are hot on the promotional trail for Gladiator II, which is set to be the blockbuster of the year.
Gladiator II is out in cinemas on the 15th of November.
