The election count is continuing but votes of a different kind will be centre stage tonight in Los Angeles, as this year's Oscars ceremony gets underway.
Ireland is sitting pretty with nine nominations.
Saoirse Ronan is nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in Brooklyn which is also up for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay:

Michael Fassbender is up for a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Steve Jobs.

Lenny Abrahamson's movie Room is up for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director and Brie Larson is up for Best Actress:
