Yes this is a movie based on a musical, based on a movie!
It's official. "Mean Girls The Musical The Movie" is in the works (I'm sure they've workshopped a title better than that).
It's been nearly 20 years since the OG coming-of-age film came out and its pop cultural impact today is still going strong! (You'll still catch us quoting it on a near-weekly basis)
While it did have a movie sequel in 2011 that well, flopped, it was adapted for a Broadway musical in 2018 and has been having great success with it.
So successful in fact, that they've decided to adapt the musical back into a movie again! We've come full circle people 😂
Tina Fey, the mastermind behind the original Mean Girls film, is set to reprise her role as the maths teacher, alongside her on-screen colleague Tim Meadows who played the principal.
It was announced back in 2020 that the musical was going to be heading to the big screen, and now it's officially in the works.

Angourie Rice has been cast as Cady Heron (originally played by Lindsay Lohan), while Renée Rapp will be playing the iconic Regina George. Absolutely no bother to Renée as she's already rose to fame playing Regina in the Broadway show!
“I’m very excited to bring Mean Girls back to the big screen,” Tina Fey said in a statement when the film was first announced back in January 2020. “It’s been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I’ve spent 16 years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly.”
With Tina Fey back as the writer and her husband (who did the music for the Broadway show) looking after the score, we have high hopes that this musical movie adaption has the right formula for being a big success.
