We are locked in!
Gladiator II starring Paul Mescal is coming to cinemas next month, and the early reviews are coming in now.
The sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 epic was screened at the Paramount Studios lot in Los Angeles, where media outlets and film critics got a first look at the movie.
Gladiator II sees our very own Paul Mescal take centre stage as Lucius, the grownup son of Lucilla (played by Connie Nielsen) who is captured and forced into slavery by the cruel Roman regime.
Lucius trains as a fearsome gladiator and seeks to avenge his family and return Rome to its rightful power dynamics.
The cast is star-studded, with Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Matt Lucas also featuring in the line-up.
Those who have been lucky enough to see early screenings took to X/Twitter to share their opinions.
#GladiatorII serves up the richest feast in the epic action set pieces and deliciously ribald treachery. Dovetailing stylishly with the original, Paul Mescal leads a solid, stellar cast with aplomb. Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger are a collective powerhouse 👍 pic.twitter.com/anFnm9rfEl

Gladiator II is Ridley Scott’s best film since The Martian. A big, bloody and bad ass action spectacle that builds upon the legacy of the original. The film showcases beautiful set pieces and a lot of epic battles. Paul Mescal shines. Denzel Washington chews up the scenery quite… pic.twitter.com/vkAt3kcfd5
